How to submit your homework
Every homework is handed in on the homework portal and by email to your instructor. This page walks you through it, step by step.
Every homework goes to two places
The portal
Upload your .zip and press Submit final.
csc261-ksu.duckdns.org
Email the same final file to your instructor.
muath@ksu.edu.sa
If either one is missing, your homework is not complete.
Current deadlines
HW1: Exploratory Data Analysis Using Python and Pandas
All times are Riyadh time. Your homework page on the portal always shows your exact dates.
Step by step
-
Finish and run your notebook
In Jupyter, run every cell from the top so all outputs and charts appear: Kernel → Restart & Run All (in newer Jupyter: Run → Restart Kernel and Run All Cells). Then save it with Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on a Mac).
-
Make a PDF of your notebook
Export the notebook as HTML, then print the HTML to PDF:
- JupyterLab or Notebook 7: File → Save and Export Notebook As → HTML
- Classic Notebook: File → Download as → HTML (.html)
Open the downloaded .html file in your browser, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac) and choose Save as PDF. Open the PDF and check that your outputs and charts are there.
-
Put both files in one .zip
Select your .ipynb file and your .pdf file together, then:
- Windows 11: right-click → Compress to ZIP file (Windows 10: Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder)
- Mac: right-click → Compress 2 items
Any file name is fine. The portal renames it for you.
The portal accepts the .zip only if
- it contains exactly one notebook (.ipynb)
- it contains at least one PDF
- it is 20 MB or smaller and has no password
- it is a real .zip (not .rar or .7z)
-
Sign in to the portal
Open csc261-ksu.duckdns.org and enter your university ID (الرقم الجامعي).
- First time: leave the password empty and press Sign in. The portal asks you to choose a password (at least 8 characters).
- After that: sign in with your university ID and your password.
- Forgot your password? Ask your instructor to reset it, then sign in with your ID and an empty password to choose a new one.
-
Submit drafts, as many times as you like
Go to My homework and open the homework. You can also download the homework PDF and the data files there.
Choose your .zip and press Submit. Each upload is kept and numbered, for example:
261018_444101234_HW1_1.zip
(date, your university ID, homework number, submission number). You can submit again whenever you improve your work, and download any of your uploads from My submissions.
A draft is not handing in your homework. Only a final submission is graded.
-
Submit final, once
When you are satisfied, choose your best .zip and press Submit final, then OK in the box that asks you to confirm.
- This is your official submission. After it, you cannot submit that homework again.
- The time you press Submit final decides whether you are on time or late.
- Pressed it by mistake, with the wrong file? Tell your instructor straight away.
-
Email the final file to your instructor Required
After Submit final, the homework page shows One more step: email it to your instructor.
- Press Download to get your final file (for example 261018_444101234_HW1_3.zip).
- Email it to muath@ksu.edu.sa with the subject YourID_HW1 (for example 444101234_HW1), with the file attached exactly as downloaded. Do not rename or unzip it.
The Open my email app button fills in the address and subject for you; you still attach the file. Send the email right away, before the homework closes.
Late submission policy
- If you press Submit final after the deadline, the most you can get is 70 out of 100. Your mark is scaled: work that earns 90 / 100 gets 63 / 100.
- Late submissions are accepted for 4 days after the deadline. After that, the portal refuses all uploads and the homework is not accepted.
- Drafts never count. If you only upload drafts and never press Submit final, you have not submitted.
- The email to your instructor is required in every case, on time or late.
Before you press Submit final
- I ran all cells, and the outputs and charts are visible.
- My PDF shows the same notebook, with its outputs.
- My .zip has my notebook and my PDF.
- I am ready to email the final file to muath@ksu.edu.sa right after.
If the portal shows a message
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| The .zip file must contain a PDF file. | Make the PDF (step 2), add it to the .zip and upload again. |
| The .zip file must contain your Jupyter notebook (.ipynb). | You zipped the wrong files. Zip your .ipynb and your PDF together. |
| … must contain exactly one notebook … | Remove the extra notebooks (including copies) and zip again. |
| … is not a valid Jupyter notebook. | Open the notebook in Jupyter, save it, and zip it again. |
| The file is not a valid .zip archive. | Make the .zip as in step 3. .rar and .7z files are not accepted. |
| The file is larger than 20 MB. | Only the notebook and the PDF are needed. Leave data files out. |
| This university ID is not on any class roster. | Check your ID. If it is correct, contact your instructor. |
| Too many failed attempts. | Wait 15 minutes, then try again. |
| Submissions for HW… closed on … | The late period is over, so the homework is no longer accepted. |
Questions
Can I use my phone?
You can sign in, check your dates and download files on a phone. Making the PDF and the .zip is much easier on a laptop.
Which time zone are the deadlines in?
Riyadh time, always.
Can I change my final submission?
Not by yourself. If something went wrong, contact your instructor before the homework closes.
The portal asks me to choose a password, but I already have one.
Someone may have signed in with your university ID. Do not continue: tell your instructor right away. Never sign in with another student's ID.
The portal is not working close to the deadline.
Do not wait. Contact your instructor right away and include a screenshot of the problem.
